At the start It’s all so exciting: getting a scholarship, moving to a foreign country, getting to know new people, new culture, new language, trying out new food. And as the grass is always greener at the other side of the world, you are sure that you will get rid of all your bad habits, start a new routine, be a nicer friend, study harder and be a better person.

Than the day comes that you realise that the grass wasn’t a lot greener, that you’re still stuck in your old habits and that you actually left so many things behind that you are missing right now! You realise that a different surrounding didn’t actually change who you are.

Maybe the following quote can be of any inspiration:
“Happiness isn’t something that depends on our surroundings. It’s something we make inside ourselves.” Corrie ten Boom (Author and Dutch survivor of World War II).

So, ask yourself. What makes you happy in life?
What is one thing that you know will make you happy, but for some reason never get to?
Maybe try it out this week!

Ps. We love to hear your stories at the next Contrast evening.
